The first-grade teachers at Kyrene de la Esperanza Elementary School have given us the thumbs-up for the opportunity to listen to a child read a teacher-chosen book. In the time you’re there, you might be asked to listen to several children. A quiet place for listening will be made available.
You can sign up on the church website, or text or email Peggy Shepherd at 602-570-2377 / [email protected]. She will get back to you to set up a date and time. Working with the students will occur at the school, which is located at 14841 South 41st Place, Phoenix.
Once you sign up, the school office and teachers will be informed that you will be coming. Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early so a copy of your fingerprint clearance card can be made and a visitor pass issued to you. The office staff will direct you to the classrooms.
You must have a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card to volunteer at the school. To obtain one, go to the AZDPS Public Services Portal to fill out the form; a $65 fee is required for the processing of the card. It can take several weeks to complete the process, depending on the number of applicants applying at any one time.
