Prayer Shawl Ministry

One of Esperanza’s oldest ministries is the prayer shawl project. Since 2009, some 25 Esperanza needle workers have been knitting and crocheting shawls for the sick, the elderly and the sad or the lonely among us. So far, the group has made more than 900 shawls!

A group meets in the Fellowship Hall at 10 a.m. on the first Wednesday of the month. The conversation flows and members exchange craft knowledge, helping each other when they hit a snag. When a shawl is finished, the group prays over it. A tag attached to the shawl explains that love and compassion are stitched in, and that the makers prayed that God’s grace will embrace the person who receives it.

New members are always welcome! If you cannot attend a meeting, you are encouraged to work on a shawl at home. Contact Kathy Gemma at [email protected] for information.
