Lenten Challenge Raises $56,000 for World Hunger

Thank you to the Esperanza members who participated in the recent ELCA Region 2 Lenten Challenge, which raised more than $56,000 for ELCA World Hunger.

The five participating synods were Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain, Pacifica, Southwest California, and Sierra Pacific. The challenge involved participating in spiritual and physical practices during the 40 days of Lent.

The intent was to consider the following four Lenten practices and to commit to three on a daily basis:

  • Devotion: Subscribe to receive daily email devotions for Lent.
  • Discipline: Do one wellness activity per day.
  • Declutter: Find a way to declutter, destress, and retune once a day.
  • Donation: Pledge to give $1 or more per day.

Our Grand Canyon Synod won the challenge. Planning for the 2025 challenge is underway.
