The Poetry of Lent: Maundy Thursday

Maundy Thursday

We are dark with despair and even the white
Space between words has
Turned grey.

Only yesterday,
The Lord our King rode into Jerusalem
And the people fell to their knees,
Blessed.

Jerusalem was blessed.

We ran
We ran after him waving
Palm fronds,
As far as long as
We had breath.

Our cheeks were flushed!
We were baptized with hope!

Save us Lord, we cried, and
Did he hear?
