First Communion Workshop this Sunday Feb 12th

Parents who think that their child is ready for First Communion are encouraged to participate in two First Communion workshops at the church at 11:15 a.m. on Feb. 5 and 12, both Sundays.

Communion is one of two sacraments in the Lutheran church (the other is baptism). For Lutherans, a sacrament has three defining characteristics:

  • It is something Jesus commanded us to do.
  • It uses a physical element — something we can see, touch and sometimes taste.
  • It is connected with God’s promise, the word of God, which gives faith.

“We emphasize that all are welcome at God’s table,” says Deacon Connie Rose-Kamprath, Esperanza’s family ministry coordinator.

The first workshop will teach the children about communion and its significance. The second will be devoted to baking the bread that will be used at First Communion at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26. Both workshops will be held in the Fellowship Hall and lunch will be provided. They will end at 1 p.m.

Those planning to attend should notify Deacon Connie at [email protected]. For questions about First Communion, contact Deacon Connie or Pastor Sarah.
