Children, Parents Rave About an ‘Out of This World’ VBS

A group of people standing in front of a crowdEsperanza’s three-day Vacation Bible School, with the theme of “Out of This World,” was attended by 46 children, assisted by 25 volunteers, and praised by parents for its range of fun and educational activities.

Each day of VBS began with songs, skits, and prayer and concluded with songs of celebration and gratitude. The children had fun with science, made crafts, and learned about Jesus and how to shine his light in the world (one way: by serving others).

Kits were assembled for Hope for Newborns and school supplies were collected for the Kyrene Family Resource Center.

Some of the highlights, in the words of parents whose children attended:

  • “For our 4-year-old, Ben, it was the Play-doh art project that he made of the sun and the rays.”
  • “For our 6-year-old, Jack, it was the singing and dancing on the last day.”
  • “Nico really enjoyed learning about different stories from the Bible, particularly the play with Jesus and Zacchaeus. We’ve re-engaged with our Spark Story Bible ever since VBS, and it’s been wonderful for the whole family.”
  • “Thank you for a great VBS. We go to Children of Hope, so that’s how we found out about it. Their favorite part was singing!”

Thank you to all of the volunteers who made VBS a success and to the Esperanza community for donating all that was needed. Thank you, also, to Pastor Sarah, Deacon Connie, Joni Thorpe, and Lynn Hockenberger for their leadership. And thanks to parents for sharing their incredible children with us. VBS was a blast!

Mark your calendar for next year’s VBS. It will take place May 28-30, 2024, and registration will begin April 1.
