Esperanza will celebrate the Fourth of July by participating in the annual Children’s Bicycle Parade sponsored by the Ahwatukee Chamber of Commerce. Volunteers are needed to staff the church’s booth and tents.
The parade will begin at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4, in the parking lot at Foothills Baptist Church, and it will end at about 11:30 a.m. at Thunderhill Park, directly across the street from Esperanza. The Chamber of Commerce will provide food, music, entertainment and prizes for the event.
Esperanza will use the occasion to connect with the Ahwatukee community and increase awareness of our church and congregation. We will offer face painting, water bottles, bubbles, foam wands and treats for the cyclists.
If you are able to help on the Fourth, please contact a member of the Outreach Team or look for the signup sheet in the church narthex. Outreach Team members are Pastor Sarah, Larry and Peggy Hanson, Judi Wold, Linda Dickson and Chris Armfield.
These items are needed for the event, and they can be delivered to the church kitchen:
- Cases of small water bottles
- Juice boxes (Capri Sun or similar)
- Small containers of bubbles (preferably red, white, and blue)
- Face painting supplies (brushes, sponges, paints, glitter, wet wipes, makeup remover)
Cash donations to assist with the purchase any of these items also are welcome.
The Outreach Team also will be involved with Grace Lutheran Church in heat-respite lunches in late July and a pancake breakfast on Aug. 13. Details will be forthcoming.
