The Poetry of Lent – Mountains

MOUNTAINS
(Mark 9: 2-8)

Climbing the mountain they
Stumbled, reached out
To one another,
Walked on speaking of the cloudless blue sky,
The crowds below,
Their pleasure of being with
Jesus,

Who ascended slowly,
Head bowed,
Pensive.

And when they reached the top,
God spoke,
And Peter and John and James
Witnessed
Jesus radiant, witnessed
Moses and Elijah, and wanted
To stay.

And you,
Being in the essence of glory,
Would you want to stay,
Or come down,
Descend
To the every day?
