Mountain View Lutheran Church Hosts “The Way of the Cross” – A Time of Meditation and Prayer

On Good Friday, April 7th from 7 am to 6 pm (except 12 pm – 1 pm), Mountain View Lutheran Church will present “The Way of the Cross.”

The Way of the Cross is a self-guided time of meditation and prayer comprised of seven stations. Each station has a picture, Scripture reading, devotion, and prayer that leads along the way of Jesus Christ’s suffering. It takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. We welcome the community to participate in this reflective activity on Good Friday, April 7th.

The artist of the paintings is Sieger Köder (1925-2015). His paintings, sculptures, and stained glass church windows can be found throughout Europe. The paintings of The Way of the Cross are displayed in the Catholic Church of St. Stephanus in Wasseralfingen, Germany.

The devotions and prayers are written by Theo Schmidkonz, SJ. They have two perspectives; one looks at the experience of Jesus’ suffering while the other looks at the experience of situations present in our world today and in our personal lives.

The Way of the Cross is adapted from the book “Kreuzweg-Erfahrungen,” Schwabenverlag AG Ostfildern, published in 2011. It is translated from German to English by Hanna Loehr and Ingeborg Mack.

Mountain View Lutheran Church is located at 11002 S. 48th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85044. The Way of the Cross will be presented in the church’s Worship Center.
