A group of people standing around a tableI-HELP (Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program sponsored by AZCEND) is a ministry that provides meals and shelter nights to homeless adults. The program assists them with finding employment through a case management program. Esperanza partners with Desert Cross Lutheran, 8600 McClintock, Tempe, AZ 85284.

Our next opportunity to serve is Tuesday, June 25, volunteers arrive at 4:30 pm to set up, make sack lunches, serve our guests and enjoy dinner with them. We are planning dinner of Sloppy Joes (Gemma’s), slider buns (Debbie Chavez), cold filled green bean salad (Linda Dickson).

Please sign up to bring additional sides and sack lunch supplies. Sign up either online (below) or at church.

Testimonial: “For me serving at I-Help is rewarding and humbling at the same time. It makes me feel good to be serving nourishing food to the people who come to the dinner, knowing that it may be the healthiest food they have had in a while. But it’s not about me, it’s providing a brief respite from the challenges that they face. Giving them a nonjudgmental atmosphere to enjoy a meal and talk to people who care about them and what they are going through. At the dinner on Tuesday, I found out that one of the guys there was from my hometown. What are the chances? I’m from Morris, Illinois. It’s about 60 miles southwest of Chicago. We had a good time connecting and I found out that he actually lived in an apartment that one of my classmates owned. It was a fun conversation.” – Peggy Hanson, Member, Esperanza Lutheran Church and I-HELP Volunteer.
