People of Hope:
During this season of Lent, we gather around the theme “Holy Spirit on the Move” because the Holy Spirit is on the move …among us.
Maybe you’re not as skeptical or cynical as I am, but especially earlier in my life, I would gloss over the things that I knew were the “correct” answers to theological questions that didn’t really seem likely or very interesting. I wouldn’t really take them in. The Holy Spirit was one of those things that I thought sounded nice but wasn’t really a thing.
Now in my old age, I’ll boldly state that I think the Holy Spirit is a real thing, and I think the Holy Spirit is up to something at Esperanza. I think the Spirit is doing something here that, when we pay attention to it, will delight us and inspire us and change our community, our neighborhood and the world.
During our midweek Lenten services on Wednesdays at 7 p.m., we will read stories from the ancients of their experiences of the Holy Spirit and consider how the Spirit is moving among us. We will even more explicitly consider questions related to our mission, guiding principles and the call process during our discernment gatherings on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary, just prior to worship. I hope you’ll come and listen and pay attention to what the Holy Spirit is up to!
With anticipation,
Pastor Sarah
