Esperanza partners with Grace Lutheran Church in downtown Phoenix to feed the homeless. Volunteers are still needed for the Pancake Breakfast in August and Dinner & Sack Lunches in August and November.
Packing Lunch – Respite Lunch: Wednesday, August 2, we will prepare, in the Esperanza Fellowship Hall, and deliver sack lunches for 100 people to Grace Lutheran. Volunteer spots are now filled! Funds have already been raised to help cover the cost of supplies for the lunches. For questions, see Larry or Peggy Hanson or Chris Armfield. Click Here for More Information
Prepare and Serve Breakfast: On Sunday, August 13, Esperanza will prepare and serve a pancake breakfast for approximately 200 people. The on-site time commitment that day will be from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Grace Lutheran will provide the food supplies and equipment. For this event, 12 to 15 volunteers are needed; we are hoping for a mix of youth (age 12 and older) and adults.
For the opportunities listed above, an online sign-up form is below and a sign-up sheet is in the Narthex.
We will donate $250 to Grace Lutheran to cover the cost of breakfast supplies; previous donations will cover this. For questions, see Larry or Peggy Hanson.
I-HELP Dinner on August 22nd and Nov 28th
Esperanza’s Outreach Team is partnering with Desert Cross Lutheran Church in Tempe to serve the Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program (I-HELP). This ministry provides shelter nights to homeless adults as well as a case management program that assists with finding employment.
We have committed to serving on these Tuesdays: July 25 (completed), Aug. 22, and Nov. 28. Linda Dickson, John Gemma, Shirley Huntley, and Molly Hurst have trained with the serving team.
The experience includes providing dinner and making sack lunches for the following day. Volunteers are needed to prepare food, serve guests, and participate in mealtime activities. Macaroni and cheese, sausage, and ground beef are available for use for the meals. Sign-up has begun for those who can help on July 25 between 4 and 7 p.m. at Desert Cross, 8600 S. McClintock Drive in Tempe. Online sign-up is below.
