Hope for Newborns has been meeting at Esperanza for many years now and we appreciate having the space to coordinate our work for the newborns who need the items we make.
The group meets 10 times a year on the 3rd Friday of the month from 10:00 am to 11:00 am – we do not meet in July or in December.
At these meetings, we gather items we have made or purchased and we put together “Newborn Kits”. Each kit contains 5 diapers, 1 blanket, one item to wear, a hat and booties, a washcloth and a burp cloth. These kits are given to families of babies who do not have the resources to provide everything a newborn baby requires.
In addition to the Newborn Kits, we have been asked to provide items which the hospital needs for the babies but does not have the resources to provide them to the families. For example, we offer flannel sheet sets and Isolette covers for the premature babies. Recently we have been asked to create “Graduation caps” for the babies to wear home when they have “graduated” from intensive care to being well enough to go home.
We offer the Newborn Kits to Dignity 10 months a year, but we also offer items to Choices and UMOM if we have more donations than the hospital needs. I’d like to invite everyone who is interested to come to one of our meetings – you are welcome to drop in for the whole hour, or just come in to say “hello”.
