The updated church constitution was ratified at the May Congregational Meeting, after unanimous approval by congregation members at the Special meeting held in April. The document was sent to the Grand Canyon Synod for review and approval, and upon their review, the constitution was put in immediate effect. During the entire process, every effort was made to keep the congregation informed on the changes and clear reasoning for the change, which made approval a success.
The constitution has been a collective effort for the past year. Under the guidance of the congregation council, the task force researched constitutions of other ELCA congregations and guidance from staff of the Grand Canyon Synod and the ELCA churchwide. Changes to the constitution addressed matters in spending guidelines, the budget fiscal year, and council membership.
