Our Esperanza community is 35 years old next year! In February 1988, the charter establishing us as an ELCA church was approved. The original document is framed and on view in the church office.
This is a joyous time in our history together. Our hands are busy with God’s work, the Spirit enlivens our worship, and soon we will welcome Pastor Chris Heller as our new leader. We are stepping boldly into the future. It’s time to celebrate!
A small group met last week to begin planning a celebration to be held in February 2025. We are thinking about a special worship service, a festive meal, a communal project that results in a physical remembrance on campus, and more! We hope to include the choir, the preschool, the groups that meet on campus, and our partners in the community, as well as former members and pastors.
The planning committee includes Michael Paradise as project leader; Pastor Chris and Deacon Connie on worship planning; Chris Armfield, Julie Valenzuela, and Peggy Wagner as banquet/potluck planners; Tom Vega on history; Lynn Hockenberger and Peggy Wagner on the commemorative project; and Liz Farquhar on communications.
