Volunteer work has been put on hold for 60 to 90 days on the Habitat for Humanity homebuilding project involving Esperanza and three other churches.
The project, a house at 3610 S. Roosevelt St. in Tempe, is awaiting electrical and street work to be performed by the City of Tempe. After that has been completed, landscaping will need to be finished before the house can be turned over to Angela Pelosi, a single mother who will live there with her three children.
Dedication had been scheduled for Saturday, July 8, but that will now take place at a later date.
The other churches from the Southeast Valley Lutheran Coalition that are helping with the build are Mountain View in Ahwatukee, Desert Cross in Tempe and Holy Trinity in Chandler. Between 20 and 40 volunteers have been participating on Saturdays, in addition to a crew of a dozen experienced workers on Tuesdays.
